Doubles Armies, Potential Lists.

So even though the next Doubles Tournament that I am likely to be able to take part in is not until next year, I have been playing with potential 750 point lists.

I figure before I launch into posting the lists, I should clarify the rules that were used last year (and I hope to be used again next year).
Each Player has 750 points to spend.
  • Each Player must select 1 HQ, no more or less.
  • Each Player must select 1 Troop choice.
  • The Army may have 1 Fast Attack, Heavy Support and Elite choice.
  • For the Army to be allowed a 2nd Fast Attack, Heavy Support or Elite, the army must have 1 of each of the following, Fast Attack, Heavy Support and Elite.
  • For the Army to be allowed a Third Fast Attack, Heavy Support or Elite, the Army must have 2 of each of the following, Fast Attack, Heavy Support and Elite.
It might read as a little confusing but it does mean your army selection has to be done with each others input.

Last year Tom and I played Imperial Guard and Space Wolves, with the Space Wolves playing the role of the force needing rescuing, and the Imperial Guard coming to the rescue. This time we are looking at doing it slightly differently. More in line with how the fluff is written, in that the Space Wolves come to the Imperial Guards rescue.

So without further ado, let me list four potential lists I have drafted...

List 1:

Company Command Squad; Vox Caster, Master of the Ordnance, Sniper Rifles x 4

Infantry Platoon
Command Squad; 4 Flamers
Infantry Squad; Mortar, Sniper Rifle
Infantry Squad; Mortar
Infantry Squad; Mortar
Infantry Squad; Mortar

Basilisk
Basilisk
Basilisk

So this list is based around hiding away from the enemy and pounding them at a distance. Every unit except for the Command Squad in the Infantry squad can cause Pinning checks, and 4 of them can deal with Tanks (assuming I hit). Lots of fire power here, but it does rely on the Space Wolves side of the duet having 2 Elites and 2 Fast Attack. Although I could just squadron the Basilisks and then it reduces the Kill points as well as making Tom's army selection less dependant on accomadating my lists.

List 2:

Company Command Squad; Officer of the Fleet, 3 Sniper Rifles, Vox Caster

Infantry Squad
Command Squad; Vox Caster, 3 Flamers
Infantry Squad; Vox Caster, Autocannon
Infantry Squad; Vox Caster, Autocannon
Infantry Squad; Vox Caster, Lascannon
Infantry Squad; Vox Caster, Lascannon

Leman Russ Battle Tank; Heavy Bolter
Leman Russ Demolisher; Heavy Bolter

A different aim from this list, more direct firepower. An officer of the fleet to slow down enemy reinforcements. The Tanks just play to the tread head in me, and give the enemy more things to shoot at, which are harder to kill than Basilisks.

List 3:

Company Command Squad: Vox Caster, 3 Sniper Rifles, Officer of the Fleet

Infantry Platoon
Command Squad; Vox Caster, 3 Flamers
Infantry Squad; Vox Caster, Autocannon
Infantry Squad; Vox Caster, Autocannon
Infantry Squad; Vox Caster, Autocannon
Infantry Squad, Vox Caster, Meltagun, Mortar
Infantry Squad; Vox Caster, Meltagun, Mortar
Heavy Weapons Team;  3 x Rocket Launchers
Heavy Weapons Team; 3 x Lascannons
Special Weapons Team; Flamer, Deomolition Charge, Meltagun

This list makes a mockery of any enemy armour killing weapons. You killed a Guardsmen with your Lascannon? Good show, another 3 and your made your points back! It has 9 scoring units and 6 Kill points if push comes to shove (although a 50 man unit may be a little crazy). With two counter charge units in the Command squad and the Special weapons team I am relatively confident of its ability to deal with the enemy up close.

List 4;

Primaris Psyker

Infantry Platoon;
Command Squad; Vox Caster, 3 Meltaguns, Chimera, Captain Al'rahem
Infantry Squad; Vox Caster, Meltagun, Chimera
Infantry Squad; Vox Caster, Meltagun, Chimera
Infantry Squad; Vox Caster, Flamer, Chimera with two Heavy Flamers
Infantry Squad; Vox Caster, Flamer, Chimera with two Heavy Flamers

Ok so this list moves away from a Guard force requiring rescuing, and more into the realm of Guard coming to the rescue. It is also Mech... which unless it has wings I dont normally do. The entire Infantry Platoon has to outflank, and the Primaris Psyker just gets to fit into one of the squads.

So as ever if you have any comments, suggestions or ideas let me know. These are very much in the early think tank stages, and I havent had any games with any of them so it will be interesting to see how much they may change between now and the tournament day.

Me and my friend will be going again for sure :) Dont think we'll take all terminators this time.. though I may be tempted to try and utilise my recent Conflict Scotland army..

Now an all Terminator list is not one I would like to face again lol... at least the Blood Angels cant do that list. lol.

Gonna see what my friend wants to take in his list, as those four are still well open for change lol.
